The 10 Fastest Cars in the World

February 18, 2026 · 13 min read · by WowTop10 Editorial

Top speed is the oldest argument in the car world, and the current generation of hypercars has pushed it into territory that would have seemed like science fiction a decade ago. These are the ten fastest production cars on record — claimed or verified — with the numbers to back the bragging.

With 1,600 hp on E85 and a drag coefficient of just 0.278, Koenigsegg’s simulations say 330 mph is possible. The run hasn’t happened yet — but nobody in the industry doubts the maths. The fastest car in the world, pending one very brave afternoon.

Named for the most violent class of tornado, the Venom F5 pairs a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 called “Fury” with a carbon tub that weighs less than its driver. Hennessey targets 311 mph, and the car has already pulled past 270 in testing.

On 2 August 2019, Andy Wallace drove a pre-production Chiron to 304.77 mph at Ehra-Lessien — the first time a road car broke 300. The thirty customer cars wear the same black-and-orange livery as the record machine.

After a disputed 2020 run, SSC came back in 2022 and recorded a verified 295 mph — the fastest independently confirmed speed for an American car. The 5.9-litre flat-plane V8 revs like a superbike and sounds like thunder.

In November 2017, on a closed Nevada highway, the Agera RS averaged 277.87 mph over two directions — snatching the production car record from Bugatti with a customer’s own car. It also set the 0–400–0 km/h record for good measure.

The elder statesman of the speed war. In 2010 the Super Sport hit 267.86 mph and held the crown for seven years. Its 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 remains one of the most absurd engines ever sold with a warranty.

Designed by F1 legend Adrian Newey, the Valkyrie generates more downforce than its own weight and revs its Cosworth V12 to 11,100 rpm. Top speed is “only” 250 mph — because every other number it produces is from another sport entirely.

The Huayra tops out at 238 mph, but numbers were never really the point. With active aero flaps, a titanium exhaust and an interior milled from single blocks of aluminium, it is the most beautiful way to travel absurdly fast.
