The 10 Best Beaches in the World

March 2, 2026 · 11 min read · by WowTop10 Editorial

Ranking beaches is a fool’s errand, and I ran it gladly. The criteria: water clarity, sand quality, setting, and that unmeasurable gasp when you first see it. Every beach below caused the gasp. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and low expectations for ever leaving.

Whitehaven Beach

Whitsunday Islands, Australia

Hill Inlet’s swirling silica sands from above.

Seven kilometres of sand so pure — 98% silica — that it squeaks underfoot and never burns your feet. At Hill Inlet the tide swirls the white sand through turquoise water like stirred paint. The finest beach on the planet, full stop.

Grace Bay

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

Calm, shallow, impossibly turquoise.

A barrier reef a mile offshore keeps Grace Bay flat as glass and glowing in shades of blue that look digitally enhanced. The sand is powdered coral, the water is bath-warm, and the sunsets are frankly showing off.

Anse Source d’Argent

La Digue, Seychelles

Granite boulders sculpted by three billion years.

The most photographed beach in the world earns it: smooth granite boulders the colour of rose gold, shallow jade water, and sand shaded by takamaka trees. Arrive by bicycle — cars barely exist on La Digue.

A smuggler’s ship ran aground here in 1980 and became the centrepiece of the Mediterranean’s most dramatic cove — sheer 200-metre cliffs, electric-blue water, and one rusted hull. View it from the cliff platform first; the beach is boat-only.

Baía do Sancho

You reach it by descending ladders through a cliff crevice — a fitting entrance ritual for a beach that wins “world’s best” polls with metronomic regularity. Spinner dolphins patrol the bay at dawn, and the snorkelling is world-class.

Pink Sands Beach

Harbour Island, Bahamas

Five kilometres of blush-coloured sand.

Microscopic coral insects with rose-pink shells tint three miles of sand a soft, unmistakable blush. The effect is subtle at noon and luminous at golden hour. Golf carts are the only traffic on Harbour Island.

Cut off from the mainland by limestone karsts, Railay is a peninsula that lives like an island — reachable only by longtail boat. Rock climbers scale the cliffs above while the Andaman Sea does its emerald thing below.

The lagoon graduates through seven documented shades of blue beneath the jagged profile of Mount Otemanu. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, the overwater bungalow cliché is real. It is also genuinely the most beautiful lagoon on Earth.

The anti-postcard beach: jet-black volcanic sand, a cliff of hexagonal basalt columns, and Atlantic surf that demands respect. You don’t swim here — you stand, stare, and feel pleasantly small.

The only beach on this list with a 13th-century Mayan city standing guard above it. Swim in the Caribbean, then walk up to temples that faced these same turquoise waters eight centuries ago. History and holiday in one frame.
