Ghostbusters Afterlife (2021)

Thirty-six years after the original film was released, the Ghostbusters franchise is back with a brand-new installment. The title of his supernatural comedy-drama film is Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This film is the direct sequel to Ghostbusters released in 1984 and Ghostbusters II released in 1989. This film is the fourth installment overall in the Ghostbusters franchise. Jason Reitman is the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This upcoming film is written by Reitman and Gil Kenan.

Since the release of Ghostbusters II in 1984, the third film of this franchise went through various stages of development. But Sony made a reboot of the 1984 film Ghostbusters II instead. This film did not do well in the box. So, Reitman started making a direct sequence of the original films. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, the release date of this film is June 11, 2021. The film is going to release on IMAX, RealD 3D, and Dolby Cinema.

Synopsis of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021):

The story of Ghostbusters: Afterlife is not going to have the same continuity as the 2016 film Ghostbusters had. The film has a direct connection with the second installment of this franchise. This film’s story is about a single mother and her children. When they move to a new town, they discover a mysterious tie to the Ghostbusters from thirty years ago.

We will see the original Ghostbusters casts in their iconic roles. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is bringing back the two stars casts from the first two movies. Sigourney Weaver will be there with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. Harold Ramis who portrayed Dr. Egon Spengler passed away in 2014. But this actor will be shown honorably with a fitting tribute. This film will also introduce us to Egon’s grandkids. Comedian Paul Rudd has joined the cast as a new character.

Story Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021):

The story of Ghostbusters: Afterlife will connect to the original two films because this film will show Trevor (Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Grace). They are the grandchildren of Egon (Ramis).

This film is set in the modern era. The story will revolve around a single mother Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two kids Trevor (Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Grace). They shift to Summerville, Oklahoma to live on a farmhouse. Callie gets this farm from her father. But she never got to know her father. However, her father is one of the original Ghostbusters cast.

There, this family faces some unusual phenomenon and the children find out that they have a strong connection with the original Ghostbusters. They will try to find out who their grandfather was and how he is connected with the Ghostbusters. They will get to know that their grandfather was one of the Ghostbusters. Trevor will also find out the retro ambulance-turned-ghostbuster-car. On the other hand, science-obsessed Phoebe will discover a device that was shown in the original Ghostbusters films. This device can read psychokinetic energy and it is an important iconic tool. 

In the previous movies, we got to know that Ghostbusters only aim is to protect the world from supernatural threats. Ghostbusters are the hero of “Manhattan Crossrip of 1984.” But memories of the real Ghostbusters’ 1984 have now faded away. So, the children will need some help from Mr. Grooberson (Pau Rudd). Schoolteacher Mr. Grooberson was just a kid during ‘The Manhattan Crossrip.’ He will help Trevor and Phoebe to find out more about the Ghostbusters.

In this film, the world will face a new supernatural threat. Phoebe will notice that major trouble is growing up in a hunted mine near the Oklahoma town. Now the twist is how Phoebe and Trevor will save the town from this new upcoming threat!
